Siemens Energy essentially comprises the business activities of the former Power Generation (PG) and Power Transmission and Distribution (PTD) Groups, and the Oil, Gas and Marine Solutions Division of the former Industrial Solutions and Services Group. The business portfolio is broken down into the six divisions Fossil Power Generation, Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas, Service Rotating Equipment, Power Transmission and Power Distribution. Tamco Switchgear (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro Limited is an established manufacturer of low and medium voltage switchgear, having been in business for over 40 years. Starting out as manufacturer of low voltage switchboards for the mining industries in 1960’s, the company then ventured into medium voltage switchgear production in the early 1970’s, and was the first company to do so in Malaysia. Now medium voltage equipment output represents over 90% of the company’s production.

Initially Tamco’s medium voltage switchgear was manufactured under license from Toshiba Corporation, Japan and Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Limited, UK. Over the years Tamco has developed expertise to produce switchgear using its own technology platforms and adapt its switchgear to suit various configurations. The whole product range is now developed in-house and independently type tested at renowned test laboratories (KEMA, Netherland; ASTA, UK; CESI, Italy).

Over the past four decades, Tamco has built up a track record for reliability and quality in the domestic as well as international markets, having tendered, won and successfully delivered a large number of switchgear supply contracts for power distribution by capitalising on its ability to provide customised solutions at cost competitive prices. Its major end-customers include main utility companies, industrial and construction contractors as well as multinational companies in the oil and gas sector. Apart from its 40% local market share, Tamco’s international customer base spans throughout the Middle East, Europe, Africa, North Asia, South Asia Australia and New Zealand. Among these regions, Middle East represents our largest export market. In fact, Tamco is one of the main switchgear vendors to major utility corporations like Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA).
